Te mapa
Santa Margarida is a municipality in the Zona da Mata region of eastern Minas Gerais, Brazil. The landscape is hilly, with rounded ridges and narrow valleys that were once covered in Atlantic Forest and later used for coffee and cattle farming. On a map, the town's streets follow this terrain closely, settling into the valley floor and climbing the lower slopes where they can.
Like many small towns in Minas Gerais, the centre formed around a main square and church, with streets extending outward along the valleys. The result is not a grid but a long, branching shape, more like a river system than a planned city, with neighbourhoods reaching up the side valleys wherever the ground allows.
Outside the urban area, rural roads wind across the hills to farms and neighbouring towns. A Santa Margarida map poster captures a place defined by its setting: a modest core, a few long streets following the lie of the land and a wide rural surround that gives the composition calm and space.
The town's streets gather along the valley floor, giving the built-up area a long, irregular outline shaped by the surrounding hills.
A central square with its church anchors the older part of town and is the point from which the main streets set out along the valleys.
Winding roads leave town in several directions, following ridges and streams across the hilly Zona da Mata countryside toward farms and villages.
