The coastal ring road
A single road loops around the island close to the sea, linking one village after another. On the poster it forms a thin inner contour that echoes the shape of the shoreline itself.

Te mapa
Savai'i is the larger of Samoa's two main islands and one of the biggest in Polynesia, yet its map is strikingly sparse. Villages line the shore in a near-continuous string, joined by a road that circles the island. The centre rises into a wide volcanic upland of forest and old lava, and barely a line crosses it.
That emptiness is the story. The island is a shield volcano, and its upland peaks include Mount Silisili, the highest point in Samoa. In the north, lava from eruptions in the early twentieth century spread across the coastal plain around Saleaula. It buried villages and left the shell of a church standing in the black rock, and the flow is still easy to trace from above.
A Savai'i map poster keeps the coastline as the main line: reef edges, small bays, and the ferry landing at Salelologa facing Upolu across the strait. Because so little of the interior is built up, the design reads almost like an outline drawing. The ring road follows the shore like a second, inner coast.
A single road loops around the island close to the sea, linking one village after another. On the poster it forms a thin inner contour that echoes the shape of the shoreline itself.
On the north coast, twentieth-century lava flows covered farmland and villages. The field shows as an open, roadless patch that breaks the chain of coastal settlements, a rare case of recent geology visible on a street map.
The southeastern tip holds the wharf where ferries arrive from Upolu. Most visitors arrive here, and the Apolima Strait between the two islands marks the eastern edge of the composition.

Koteā ko Savai'i
Savai'i tends to hang in the homes of people with family ties to the island, or memories of a slow journey round its coast. The outline is simple enough to read from across a room, and the empty volcanic interior gives the print a quiet, open balance.
You can change the title, subtitle and coordinates line, so the poster can carry a village name, a family surname or a date. Choose from five styles, Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint or Sand. Download the HD files for $9 or order a printed poster.
