Te mapa
Schwedt lies in the northeast of Brandenburg on the Oder river, which forms the border with Poland. On a map the town is framed by water: the Hohensaaten-Friedrichsthal waterway runs close to the centre, while the wide floodplain of the Lower Oder Valley extends east to the river itself. The meadows and channels give this side of the map a distinctive, layered pattern.
In the GDR era Schwedt grew rapidly around the PCK oil refinery, which remains one of Germany's major refineries and the endpoint of the Druzhba pipeline. Large planned housing estates were built for workers, and their regular blocks still shape much of the town. The Lower Oder Valley National Park protects the wetlands along the border.
A Schwedt (Oder) map poster presents three characters in one frame: the compact older centre, the geometric housing estates of the twentieth century and the open, water-rich valley of the Oder. It is a map of contrasts, where urban planning and river landscape sit side by side.
East of the town, the national park's wetlands and polders stretch toward the Oder, forming a wide, patterned band of channels and meadows.
Large residential districts from the GDR period fill much of Schwedt with regular, repeated blocks that print as a precise geometric texture.
The Oder marks the frontier with Poland, and its broad course gives the map a clear eastern edge beyond the floodplain meadows.
