Searcy is the seat of White County, about fifty miles northeast of Little Rock, where the flat Arkansas Delta begins to give way to the foothills of the Ozarks. The historic downtown is built around a courthouse square. From there a regular grid of streets extends outward before merging with the curving subdivisions and commercial strips of the newer city.
The largest single feature on the map is the campus of Harding University, a private Christian university whose quads, halls and playing fields fill a broad block near the centre. To the west, the US 67/167 freeway traces a strong line past the city, and the Little Red River winds through the countryside nearby.
