Te mapa
Shahrisabz, whose name means green city, lies in the Qashqadaryo valley south of Samarkand, beyond the mountain pass that separates the two. It is best known as the birthplace of Timur, born nearby in 1336, who later built his grandest palace here. The historic centre was listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2000.
The Ak-Saray palace survives as the massive fragments of its entrance portal, standing at the northern end of the historic core. From there a long axis of parkland and monuments runs south toward the Dorut Tilavat complex with its Kok Gumbaz mosque. On the map, this central strip reads as a wide, open corridor drawn straight through the town.
Around it, residential neighbourhoods follow a looser pattern of streets and courtyards, fed by irrigation that keeps the oasis green, with mountains rising beyond the valley. A Shahrisabz map poster captures both the monumental axis at the centre and the quieter domestic texture of the town that surrounds it on every side.
The remaining towers of Timur's palace mark the northern end of the old town, an anchor point from which the central axis of the city extends.
A broad, open strip of gardens and paths links the principal monuments, drawing a clear north–south line through the middle of the map.
The ensemble around the Kok Gumbaz mosque stands toward the southern end of the historic centre, a cluster of courtyards and domes set within the surrounding blocks.
