Te mapa
Shōbudahama lies on the Pacific coast of Miyagi Prefecture, in the town of Shichigahama, a small peninsula between the port of Sendai and the islands of Matsushima Bay. Its best-known feature is its beach, a curve of sand that has long drawn summer visitors from Sendai. Behind it, residential streets and low hills make up the rest of the community.
The coast here was struck hard by the tsunami of March 2011, and the shoreline districts of Shichigahama were among those badly damaged. Rebuilding has since reshaped parts of the waterfront, with new seawalls and changes in land use. On the map, the edge between land and sea is the defining line, sharp and clean against the open water.
A Shōbudahama map poster puts that coastline at the centre of the composition. The sweep of the beach, the pattern of streets and the rounded contours of the peninsula stand out in fine black line work, and the sea is left as quiet, open space. It is a calm image of a place closely tied to the water.
The sandy shore curves along the Pacific side of the peninsula and forms the most recognisable outline on the map.
The peninsula's compact, rounded shape sits between Sendai's port and Matsushima Bay, so water frames the map on several sides.
Since 2011, seawalls and reorganised land near the shore have changed the coastal edge, a newer layer in the map's pattern of streets.

Koteā ko Shōbudahama
For people from Sendai and the Miyagi coast, Shōbudahama holds memories of summer swims and, for many, of the recovery since 2011. A map of the beach and town is a quiet, respectful way to mark that connection.
Add a title, a subtitle with a meaningful date, and the coordinates line, then choose from Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint or Sand. Digital files cost $9 and include six sizes. Printed posters come on matte paper, with an optional wooden frame.
