Te mapa
Shushenskoye lies in the south of Krasnoyarsk Krai, on the right bank of the Yenisei near the mouth of the small Shush River. The Minusinsk basin around it is one of the warmest and most fertile parts of Siberia, a broad valley ringed by mountains. The village spreads across flat ground in a loose grid of wide streets and generous plots.
The village is best known as the place where Vladimir Lenin spent his Siberian exile from 1897 to 1900. The houses linked to him became the core of a large open-air museum of nineteenth-century Siberian village life, with preserved log buildings and streets. The village's name is also part of the name of the Sayano-Shushenskaya hydroelectric dam, upstream on the Yenisei.
A Shushenskoye map poster shows the broad river with its channels and islands, the regular blocks of the village and the fields stretching towards the foothills. Few maps show so clearly how large Siberian rivers are next to the small footprint of a settlement, and that contrast is the heart of the design.
Near the village, the wide Yenisei splits into branches and islands. Their flowing shapes dominate one side of the poster.
The preserved historic quarter, now a museum-reserve, keeps an older street pattern of log houses and yards. It is a small but meaningful detail within the modern village.
Open farmland and steppe surround Shushenskoye. They are drawn as broad field rectangles and straight roads leading across the basin towards the Sayan foothills.

Koteā ko Shushenskoye
Shushenskoye interests history readers, travellers heading to the Sayan Mountains and the many people who grew up in southern Krasnoyarsk Krai. A map of the village is a restrained record of a place where Siberian history and landscape meet.
