Te mapa
Smaliavičy is a town in Minsk Region, a short distance east of the Belarusian capital. It grew along the main railway line running east from Minsk, and that line still sets the structure of the map. The streets sit mainly on either side of the tracks, crossing at a few points, with the older, denser blocks close to the station.
Around the town, the country is low and gently rolling, a mix of fields, forest and small rivers typical of central Belarus. Newer housing, including blocks of flats and private houses with gardens, extends outward from the centre. Main roads toward Minsk and the east pass nearby, making the town part of the capital's wider commuter area.
A Smaliavičy map poster shows how a railway shaped an ordinary town. The long straight line of the tracks cuts across the frame, and the streets arrange themselves around it. It is a quiet, structured image, meaningful to people who grew up here or who have passed through on the line east of Minsk.
The railway runs straight through town, a strong diagonal across the poster. The streets and older blocks gather on either side of it.
The oldest, densest streets lie near the station, where the town began. Further out, the blocks become larger and more spread out.
Woods and farmland of central Belarus surround the town. On the map they give the built-up area a clear, compact outline.
