Te mapa
Sumenep lies near the eastern end of Madura, the island off the northeast coast of Java. On a map, the town is a compact centre with roads running outward to villages and farmland. The coast lies a short distance to the south and east, and the land around the town is flat and heavily cultivated. Beyond the mainland, the regency includes many small islands scattered across the sea.
Sumenep was the seat of a Madurese royal line, and its kraton, or palace, still stands in the centre alongside the town's historic grand mosque. Both are among the best-known buildings on the island. Madura as a whole is known for its bull races, karapan sapi, and for a strong local culture that sets it apart from neighbouring Java.
A Sumenep map poster centres on the old royal core, where palace grounds and mosque occupy larger blocks among smaller town streets. From there, roads spread out toward the coast and inland villages. The result is a clear, readable plan that shows a regional capital at the edge of a large island.
The kraton and its grounds take up a distinct block in the centre, a remnant of the town's role as the seat of Sumenep's rulers.
The historic mosque stands close to the palace. Together they form the ceremonial heart of the town, and the plan is organised around them.
Sumenep lies toward the end of Madura. Coastline and open water are close by, and many smaller islands of the regency lie offshore.

Koteā ko Sumenep
For people from Madura, or anyone who has made the crossing from Java to see its eastern end, a Sumenep poster is a personal way to keep that journey close. The compact centre makes a calm, well-proportioned composition.
