Te mapa
Ṣuwayliḥ lies at the northwestern edge of greater Amman, on high ground where the city meets the hills of Balqa. From above, its streets do not form a grid but follow the contours, curling around ridges and dropping into small valleys. Buildings cluster tightly along the main roads and spread more thinly across the slopes, so the map has a layered, terraced appearance.
Several important routes converge here, including the road heading west towards Salt and the roads linking the area with central Amman. These arteries form the strongest lines on the map, with smaller residential streets branching off in loops and switchbacks. The University of Jordan lies close by to the southeast, adding a large block of campus space to the wider composition.
Ṣuwayliḥ grew rapidly during the twentieth century, becoming a dense residential and commercial area tied to the capital while keeping its own identity. Its hilly terrain gives it a character quite different from the flatter parts of Jordan. A Ṣuwayliḥ map poster shows that terrain through the streets themselves: roads bending around hills, dense junctions and quieter neighbourhoods rising above them.
Roads wind around the hillsides rather than crossing them, creating a flowing pattern of loops and curves that gives the map a strong sense of relief.
The route west towards Salt leaves the town through the hills, a long curving line that connects Ṣuwayliḥ with the older towns of the Balqa region.
Where main roads meet, the street network tightens into dense knots of intersections and commercial blocks, the busiest and most detailed points on the map.
