Te mapa
Wādī as Sīr lies on the western edge of Amman, where the high plateau of the capital breaks into steep valleys that drop toward the Jordan Valley. The map is shaped by terrain. Residential streets curve along ridges and down hillsides, and the more open wadi below keeps its own winding course through the landscape.
The town was settled in the late nineteenth century by Circassian families, one of several such communities around Amman. Further down the valley is Qasr al-Abd, a Hellenistic-era palace ruin. Over the past few decades the district has become part of greater Amman, and its hillsides have filled with stone-clad houses and apartment blocks.
A Wādī as Sīr map poster captures a place where streets had to work around the land. Curving roads follow contour lines, cul-de-sacs sit on spurs, and the valley floor remains mostly unbuilt. For anyone who knows Amman, it is a very recognisable piece of the city's western slopes.
Residential roads follow the ridges and slopes rather than a grid. They make looping, layered lines that show the steepness of the ground.
The valley that gives the district its name winds westward below the houses. On the poster it is a quieter, open channel among the built-up hills.
The district is where the capital's dense western suburbs start to give way to open valleys. The map shows that transition clearly.
