Valley-floor layout
Built-up streets gather on the level ground of the valley, so the town takes a long, narrow form. That shape follows the terrain directly and gives the poster a strong horizontal rhythm.

Te mapa
Taiping lies in the far west of Yunnan, in the borderland toward Myanmar. On a map the landscape comes first. Ridges fold in from several sides, streams cut down through them, and the built-up area keeps to the flatter ground where a road can run. The town reads as a short, dense cluster of lines inside a much larger field of contour-shaped emptiness.
Rendered in black and white, that contrast becomes the whole composition. The road network is modest and linear, bending where the valley bends, with lanes branching off toward fields and hamlets on the lower slopes. Watercourses add thin, wandering strokes. None of it is laid out as a grid. The pattern comes from centuries of fitting settlement to terrain rather than from a plan.
A Taiping map poster suits people with a personal tie to this corner of Yunnan, whether they were born here, worked here or passed through on the way to the border. It gives a quiet record of a place that rarely appears on printed maps, drawn at a scale where the individual lanes can be seen.
Built-up streets gather on the level ground of the valley, so the town takes a long, narrow form. That shape follows the terrain directly and gives the poster a strong horizontal rhythm.
Streams and small rivers run through the surrounding land as thin, irregular lines. They soften the composition and show where the water drains out of the hills.
Around the town, large areas carry almost no mapped streets. That negative space frames the settlement and makes the compact core stand out clearly in every style.

Koteā ko Taiping
Some people hang a map of a well-known capital. Others want the place that shaped them, even if few visitors have heard of it. A Taiping print does the second job well, keeping a small valley town at the centre of the wall.
You can set your own title and subtitle and adjust the coordinates line, then choose one of five styles: Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint or Sand. Download the $9 HD files for home printing, or order a matte print with an optional wooden frame.
