Te mapa
Takeo lies in western Saga Prefecture on Kyushu, in a basin surrounded by low, wooded hills. The streets are densest around the hot-spring district and the railway station, then open out into rice fields that fill the flat land between the slopes. Rivers and irrigation channels cross the farmland in thin, regular lines.
The town's hot springs have been used for over a thousand years. The entrance to the old bathhouse is a vermilion gate designed by Tatsuno Kingo, the architect of Tokyo Station. Behind Takeo Shrine stands a huge camphor tree said to be around three thousand years old. Takeo-Onsen Station is also a stop on the Nishi-Kyushu Shinkansen, which opened in 2022.
The Takeo map poster shows a small, clearly bounded town. The fine street pattern of the onsen quarter and station area is surrounded by the soft geometry of paddies and ringed by hills where the lines disappear. It's a restful composition, well suited to plain black on white.
The historic hot-spring district forms a tight cluster of streets at the edge of the centre. On the poster, it's the most detailed patch.
The railway runs through the basin and past the station, which also serves the Shinkansen. It draws a clean, gently curving line through the town.
Farmland with straight field boundaries surrounds the built-up area. Beyond it, wooded slopes close in and give the map a natural frame.
