Te mapa
Taku lies in central Saga Prefecture in Kyushu, in a basin surrounded by forested hills. From above, the valley floor is a patchwork of rice paddies divided by narrow roads and irrigation channels. The town's buildings cluster along the main routes and at the foot of the slopes, where the flat land meets the wooded hillsides.
The town is best known for the Taku Seibyo, a Confucian shrine completed in 1708 and one of the oldest of its kind in Japan. It stands in a green, landscaped setting at the edge of town. A small river flows through the basin, and the railway follows the valley, linking Taku to the rest of Saga.
A Taku map poster captures the mix of order and softness typical of rural Japan. Rice fields make fine rectilinear patterns, streets curve along the contours, and the surrounding hills show as an unbroken field of open space. It is understated, balanced and well suited to Paper or Sand.
The early eighteenth-century Confucian shrine stands in its own green grounds. It marks the town's best-known cultural site and a quiet focal point on the map.
Small rectangular rice fields cover the valley floor. From above they form a fine, almost textile grid around the built-up areas.
Wooded slopes enclose the town on several sides, so settlement and roads keep to the flat ground and follow the valley's shape.
