Te mapa
Tamra sits on the western edge of the Lower Galilee in northern Israel, a few kilometres east of Acre. It is one of the larger Arab towns in the region, built on a hillside that drops toward the Zevulun valley and the coastal plain. From above, the streets are closely packed and irregular, following the slope rather than any imposed grid.
Houses rise in dense blocks, and roads twist to find gradients they can manage. The older core is tighter than the newer neighbourhoods that climb higher up the hill, and olive groves and open land surround the edges. The compact town set against the flat, geometric farmland of the valley below makes a striking composition.
The town looks out over one of the busiest corners of the country, and on clear days Haifa, its port and the Carmel ridge are visible across the bay. A Tamra map poster frames the town at close range, where the layered hillside streets carry most of its character.
Roads bend and double back as they climb, giving the town a street pattern that grew with the land. On the poster it reads like a set of contour lines.
To the west the land flattens into the Zevulun valley. Its straight field roads contrast sharply with the curving lanes of Tamra.
Open patches around the built-up area mark olive groves and farmland. They are soft pauses between the dense blocks of houses.
