Te mapa
From above, Tanuma sits where the forested uplands of southwestern Tochigi begin to give way to the flatter ground of the Kanto Plain. The built-up area is modest and irregular, a cluster of streets gathered along the valley floor. Around it, the map breaks into the small, patchy geometry of fields, scattered hamlets and roads that follow the land rather than a grid.
The contrast is what gives the place its character on paper. To the north, contour-shaped slopes and ridges leave long blank areas where only a few roads thread through. To the south, the pattern loosens into open farmland. Between the two, the town centre forms a denser knot of lines, with a rail line and a river corridor cutting through it.
Tanuma was an independent town until 2005, when it merged into the city of Sano, and many people still use its old name for the district. A Tanuma map poster keeps that name on the wall. It frames the town as a small, legible place that holds together clearly in black and white, between the mountains and the plain.
Wooded ridges rise north of the town and thin the street network to a few winding roads, leaving broad quiet areas on the map that set off the denser centre.
The main built-up area follows the lower ground, so its streets gather in an elongated cluster instead of spreading outward in rings or a regular grid.
Beyond the centre, narrow roads wander between fields and hamlets, producing the fine, irregular linework typical of the Japanese countryside when seen from above.

Koteā ko Tanuma
Tanuma is the kind of place people know from family, childhood or a long stay rather than from a guidebook. A map of it is personal by nature, a record of streets someone actually walked, and the setting between hills and plain makes a composition that feels calm rather than crowded.
You can set the title, subtitle and coordinates line yourself, adding a family name, a year or the old town name alongside Sano. Choose from Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint or Sand, then download the HD files or order a printed poster.
