Te mapa
Tatebayashi lies in the far southeast of Gunma, on the level ground of the Kanto plain between the Tone and Watarase rivers. With no hills to steer it, the city spreads evenly, and its map shows a steady weave of streets, rail lines and irrigation channels. Near the old castle grounds the pattern grows denser, and from there it thins into farmland and suburbs.
The shape that catches the eye is Lake Jonuma, a long, slender body of water curving along the eastern side of the town. On its shore is Tsutsujigaoka Park, famous for its old azalea bushes, which draw crowds each spring. On the map the lake gives a flowing counterpoint to the straight lines of the surrounding plain.
The city also holds Morinji, the temple linked to the folk tale of Bunbuku Chagama, the tea kettle that turned into a tanuki, and it is often mentioned among the hottest places in Japan during summer. A Tatebayashi map poster captures a quieter side of the Kanto region, where water, parks and a steady grid set the character of the town.
The long, curved lake on the eastern side of the city is the map's strongest shape, a slim band of water that contrasts with the straight streets around it.
Tsutsujigaoka Park sits on the lakeshore, famous for its azaleas, and shows up as a softer green pocket where the street pattern gives way to paths.
Set between the Tone and Watarase rivers, the city spreads evenly across flat land, drawn as a regular web of roads, rail lines and channels.
