Teliamura lies in the Indian state of Tripura, in a valley between two long, forested ridges, the Baramura and Atharamura ranges. The landscape gives the town its shape. It stretches along the valley floor, and the highway toward Agartala passes through it, carrying traffic between the state capital and the rest of northeast India.
The town grew as a market centre on that route. On the map, its densest streets gather close to the main road, and smaller lanes branch off toward homes, paddy fields and streams. Beyond the town, rice fields fill the low ground, and the land rises into wooded hills on either side.
