Te mapa
Tema was built from scratch in the 1950s and 1960s as Ghana's new industrial port, east of Accra. From above, you can see the planning immediately. The city is divided into numbered Communities, each with its own neighbourhood layout, and each is separated from the next by wide roads and green buffers. It looks very different from the organic growth of older West African towns.
The harbour is the anchor of the plan. Its long breakwaters reach into the Gulf of Guinea, and industrial areas cluster behind the docks. The Tema Motorway runs in a straight line toward Accra, one of the most recognisable lines in the region. The Greenwich meridian passes through the city, so Tema sits very close to zero degrees longitude.
A Tema map poster shows a modernist idea at the scale of a city: the plan is still visible, and later growth has filled in its gaps. The coastline gives the page a clear southern edge. Inland, the grid of communities spreads north and east, with the port's geometry at the front.
Long breakwaters enclose the country's main deep-water port. Their hard angles against the curving coast make the strongest shapes on the page.
The city is organised into planned Communities, each a separate cell of streets. Wide roads between them give the map an unusually clear structure.
The zero line of longitude passes through Tema. For a map poster, that makes the coordinates line especially neat to show off.

Koteā ko Tema
For people from Tema, the Community number is often part of how they say where they live, and a poster can carry that detail. Set the title to the city, put your Community in the subtitle and keep the coordinates that sit almost exactly at zero longitude.
The five styles all work with the harbour and the grid, and Blueprint suits the city's engineered origins particularly well. The HD download costs $9, with 300 DPI PNG and print-ready PDF files in six sizes. Printed copies ship from partners in more than 30 countries.
