Timmins is a city in north-eastern Ontario, built on the gold discoveries of the Porcupine gold rush in the early twentieth century. Mines such as the Hollinger became some of the most productive in North America, and mining still shapes the local economy. By area the municipality is one of the largest cities in Canada, and most of it is forest, lakes and rock.
The urban core sits along the Mattagami River, with residential streets in a largely regular grid and industrial and mine sites at the edges. Around it, the Canadian Shield breaks into countless lakes and wetlands. Timmins is also known as the town where the singer Shania Twain grew up.
A Timmins map poster balances the tidy grid of the town with the irregular shapes of the northern landscape. The river curves through the frame, rail and highway lines lead away across the forest, and lakes appear as clean open outlines. It is a portrait of a resource town and the wide country around it.
The river runs along the western side of the city. It is a strong curving line that frames the urban area and separates it from the land beyond.
Mine sites, tailings areas and industrial roads around the edges of town are remnants of the gold rush that shaped Timmins. They appear as distinct shapes on the map.
Beyond the city, the Canadian Shield is scattered with lakes of every size. They turn the outer parts of the poster into a quiet pattern of rounded forms.

Koteā ko Timmins
Timmins inspires strong loyalty in people who grew up with its winters, mines and lakes, many of whom now live elsewhere in Canada. A map poster keeps the town's grid and river in view as a quiet link to the north.
The title, subtitle and coordinates line can be personalised with a street, a mine name or a year. Choose from Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint and Sand. The HD files cost $9, and the six sizes include 18×24″ and 24×36″.
