Te mapa
Tocumen lies on the eastern edge of the Panama City metropolitan area, on low ground that runs down toward the Pacific. Its map is dominated by one large feature: the long parallel runways of Tocumen International Airport, the country's main gateway. Around them, residential districts fill the gaps between highways, drainage channels and remaining green land.
Toward the coast the street pattern gives way to mangroves and wetland, where rivers and creeks twist through low vegetation before reaching the bay. Inland, newer housing estates sit in tidy clusters, each with its own loop of roads connected to the main arteries heading west into the capital.
A Tocumen map poster captures that contrast between engineered and natural shapes. The straight runway lines and highway curves are set against the ragged edge of the coastal wetlands, which gives a graphic, almost diagrammatic look. It suits anyone who connects the place with arrivals, departures or a home near the flight path.
The long straight runways and taxiways of Tocumen International Airport form the boldest shapes on the map, a clear reminder that most visitors to Panama first land here.
South of the built-up area, mangrove forest and tidal creeks break the land into irregular fragments, softening the edge where the city meets the Pacific shore.
Residential estates appear as small self-contained patterns of loops and cul-de-sacs, each tied to the main roads that carry traffic toward central Panama City.
