Te mapa
Tômbua, known in colonial times as Porto Alexandre, lies on the Atlantic coast of Namibe Province in southwestern Angola. It grew as a fishing port on the cold, nutrient-rich waters of the Benguela Current, and fish processing has long shaped its economy. The Namib Desert lies behind the town, and Iona National Park stretches away to the south.
The map shows a small grid of streets along a sheltered bay, with piers and industrial buildings lining the shore. On the land side the town ends abruptly where the sand begins. The built-up area forms a clean band between water and desert, crossed by the road that leads north toward the city of Namibe.
A Tômbua map poster is a study in edges: the curve of the bay, the straight lines of the port and the bare desert beyond. There is very little in between, and that economy of form suits a minimalist print, where empty space carries as much weight as the streets.
A curved stretch of sheltered coast gives the town its harbour and its main outline. Everything else on the map is set against this smooth line of water.
Wharves and processing buildings along the waterfront reflect the town's long dependence on the fishing grounds of the Benguela Current offshore.
Streets stop sharply where the Namib begins. The wide, empty field this leaves on the map shows how narrow the inhabited strip really is.

Koteā ko Tômbua
Tômbua has a stark beauty that stays with the people who grew up there, worked on its boats or travelled through the Namib. A map captures the meeting of desert and ocean in a quiet, graphic way.
Personalise the title and subtitle with a family name, a date or even the old name Porto Alexandre, and adjust the coordinates line. Sand suits the desert setting, alongside Classic black & white, Noir, Paper and Blueprint. The $9 download includes six print sizes as 300 DPI PNG and PDF files.
