Te mapa
Tōmi lies in eastern Nagano, on the sunny north side of the Chikuma River valley between Ueda and Komoro. The city was formed in 2004 by a merger, and its map shows several settlements rather than one centre. They sit on a long south-facing slope that rises from the river toward the foothills of the volcanic mountains to the north.
The best-known place within Tōmi is Unno-juku, a former post town on the Hokkoku Kaidō. Its preserved row of wooden merchant houses follows the old road beside the river. On a map, the old highway appears as a slender line parallel to the Chikuma. The newer rail line and expressway run nearby, three routes all following the same valley.
A Tōmi map poster captures a landscape built on gradients. Above the valley floor, roads zigzag up through orchards, vineyards and fields, and small reservoirs appear as dots across the slope. The river gives the composition a strong diagonal. The upper part of the sheet dissolves into sparse mountain tracks, so the map reads almost like a cross-section of the valley.
The river cuts a broad band along the southern edge of the city, and the valley's roads, railway and settlements all line up to follow its course.
The historic post-road street appears as one long, narrow line of buildings beside the river, a clear linear trace of travel between Edo and the Sea of Japan coast.
North of the valley, a looser web of farm roads climbs through fields and vineyards, their curves following the contours of the rising ground toward the mountains.

Koteā ko Tōmi
Tōmi suits anyone drawn to rural Japan, old travel routes or the slow agricultural landscape of Shinshu. The map is more about terrain than urban density, and that makes it a calm, open piece that works well in a study, hallway or kitchen.
Add your own title, a subtitle and the coordinates line, perhaps marking a stay on the old post road. Choose from five styles, Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint or Sand, to match the tone of the room.
