Te mapa
Traiguén is a town in the Araucanía Region of southern Chile, in Malleco Province. It was founded in the late nineteenth century as a fortified outpost during the Chilean state's advance into Mapuche lands, and its plan reflects that period: a regular grid around a central plaza, laid out across gently rolling ground.
The land around Traiguén became known for grain farming, especially wheat, and the countryside is still largely agricultural. Rural roads and field boundaries stretch in all directions, and the Traiguén river runs near the town, bringing a natural curve into the otherwise orderly landscape.
A Traiguén map poster shows that planned core clearly: square blocks, a central plaza and straight streets that meet the river and the fields at the edges. Printed in black and white it has a calm, measured feel that matches the open farmland of the region.
Streets run in a regular grid around the central plaza, a layout dating from the town's founding as a frontier outpost.
The Traiguén river flows close to the built-up area, adding a soft, winding line beside the rigid geometry of the blocks.
Open farmland spreads around the town in broad fields and rural roads, reflecting the area's long tradition of grain growing.
