Te mapa
Uauá lies in the north of Bahia, in the semi-arid sertão. The landscape around it is caatinga, a dry scrubland of thorny bushes and hardy trees. From above, the town is a compact street grid set in a wide, sparsely marked territory. Roads and tracks leave the centre in several directions and soon become thin lines crossing open land, with only scattered farms and seasonal watercourses between them.
The town has a place in Brazilian history as the site of the first armed clash of the Canudos War in 1896. Canudos, the settlement led by Antônio Conselheiro, lay in the same region. Today Uauá is better known for goat herding and for the umbu, a native fruit of the caatinga that local cooperatives process into jams, juices and sweets.
A Uauá map poster keeps the proportions of the place honest. There is a small, orderly core and a great deal of quiet space around it. In black and white, the empty land becomes part of the composition instead of a gap, and it shows how a sertão town sits in its landscape.
The centre of Uauá is a tight arrangement of streets and blocks. It reads as a small, dense patch against the much larger and emptier surroundings of the municipality.
Beyond the last houses, roads and tracks spread outward like spokes. They link the town to farms and neighbouring communities across the dry interior of Bahia.
Thin, winding lines of intermittent streams cross the land around Uauá. In the sertão they carry water only after rain, but on a map they add a gentle, organic texture.

Koteā ko Uauá
A map of Uauá is a quiet reminder of home for families from the Bahian sertão, including many who now live in larger cities. It also suits anyone interested in the history of Canudos and the interior of northeast Brazil.
Add your own title, subtitle and coordinates line, perhaps a family name or the year someone left or came back. There are five styles: Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint and Sand. You can buy the $9 HD files or order a printed poster on matte paper.
