Te mapa
Udaipur lies in southern Tripura on the banks of the Gomati River and was once the capital of the Tripura kingdom. On a map, water is everywhere. The river curves through the town, and several large tanks and lakes built during the royal period appear as clear, solid shapes between the streets, which is why it is sometimes called a city of lakes.
The most important landmark is the Tripura Sundari temple at Matabari, just outside the centre, one of the Shakti Peetha shrines and a major pilgrimage site. Its compact grounds and the large tank beside it are easy to identify on the map. Low, forested hills surround the town and shape the roads leading out of it.
A Udaipur map poster shows a town in which the river, the historic tanks and the temple area give structure to otherwise dense and irregular streets. It is a map with many focal points, well suited to people who know the town's pilgrimage routes and water edges.
The river winds through the town, providing the longest natural line on the map and dividing the built-up area into distinct parts.
Large tanks built under the Tripura kings appear as bold, geometric water shapes among the streets, the most distinctive feature of the town.
The Tripura Sundari temple and its tank form a compact, clearly defined area on a small hill, the pilgrimage centre of the region.
