Te mapa
Unna sits on the eastern rim of the Ruhr, just east of Dortmund, on the old Hellweg trade route that once linked the Rhine with Paderborn. On a map the historic centre is small and clearly defined: a knot of short, curving streets around the market square and the town church, with larger roads looping around its edge where the medieval town ended.
Beyond that core, the city spreads out in the typical Ruhr pattern of residential districts, railway lines and former industrial sites, with fields between the outlying villages. Rail lines toward Dortmund and Soest add long diagonals across the sheet. The mix of a tight old centre and open outskirts gives the map a clear centre of gravity and plenty of quiet space around it.
Unna is known for the Zentrum für Internationale Lichtkunst, a museum of light art installed in the cellars of a former brewery beneath the town. It is a fitting fact for a map, since some of the most interesting parts of the city are not visible from street level. A Unna map poster brings the old town and its surroundings together in one calm composition.
Half-timbered houses and irregular lanes cluster around the market and the town church, forming a dense oval that stands out clearly from the looser streets around it.
Tracks toward Dortmund and Soest pass close to the centre, cutting long straight lines across the city and dividing the map into distinct quarters.
Outlying districts sit among farmland to the south and east, so the edges of the map loosen into scattered streets, small settlements and open ground.

Koteā ko Unna
Unna suits people who know it as a small town with a big-city neighbour: residents, students who commuted to Dortmund, or anyone who remembers walking home through the old town lanes. The map is understated enough to fit a flat, an office or a thoughtful gift.
