Te mapa
Valley East lies in the north of Greater Sudbury, Ontario, on the floor of the Sudbury Basin. The basin is an oval depression widely regarded as the remains of a huge meteorite impact nearly two billion years ago. Around the city of Sudbury the ground is rocky and full of lakes, but the valley is level and open. The map shows neighbourhoods scattered among fields and strips of woodland.
The former town grew out of several communities, including Hanmer, Val Caron, Val Thérèse and Blezard Valley, and it still has a strong francophone presence. On a map these settlements are separate clusters of streets linked by long, straight concession roads. The layout reflects the area's farming past and its later role as a residential district for Sudbury.
A Valley East map poster shows how open this landscape is compared with the rest of the region. Straight roads, the rural grid and the curving streets of newer subdivisions combine into a pattern that reads well in black and white. In a wider view, the rocky, lake-dotted country of the basin rim appears at the edges.

Long straight roads cross the valley on a rural survey grid. They link the separate communities and give the map a strong, orderly framework.
Hanmer, Val Caron, Val Thérèse and Blezard Valley each appear as their own knot of streets. Together they form a loose chain of neighbourhoods across the valley.

Koteā ko Valley East
Valley East is home to many families with francophone and mining roots, people who grew up in Hanmer or Val Caron and still think of the valley as one community. A map of the area brings those places together and captures the unusual flatness of the basin floor.
You can personalise the title, subtitle and coordinates in French or English, perhaps with a family name and a year. Choose Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint or Sand, then download HD files for $9 or order a matte print from a nearby print partner.
