Te mapa
Vang Vieng lies on the east bank of the Nam Song river, north of Vientiane, in a valley framed by dramatic limestone karst. From above, the town is compact and linear. A grid of short streets sits between the river and the long, straight line of a former airstrip, and the main road runs north along the valley. Across the river the land opens into fields beneath the cliffs.
The karst hills are full of caves, several of them open to visitors, and the Nam Song is known for tubing and kayaking. The town was once a quiet stop on the road between Vientiane and Luang Prabang. It became a backpacker destination and later a base for outdoor travel, and it now also has a station on the Laos–China railway.
A Vang Vieng map poster turns this setting into a clean layout. The river winds past the town in a single curving line with bridges and footbridges across it, and the airstrip draws a strong straight stroke through the streets. Beyond, tracks lead into the karst country, where the map goes quiet among the peaks.
The river curves along the western side of town. Its broad bends form the most expressive line on the map and mark the town's western edge.
A long, straight former runway cuts through the town. It is one of the most distinctive features from above and an unusual trace of the valley's past.
West of the river, tracks and paths lead through farmland toward limestone peaks and caves, where the streets give way to open ground.

Koteā ko Vang Vieng
Vang Vieng tends to stay with people, whether they came for the river, the caves or simply the view across the water at dusk. A map is a calmer keepsake than a photograph and fits any room.
