Te mapa
Vichuga lies in the north of Ivanovo Oblast, in the traditional cotton-weaving country east of Moscow and not far from the Volga. The town grew in the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries around several textile mills, and its street plan still reflects that origin: separate factory settlements joined together over time rather than one planned centre.
The Konovalov family, among the best-known textile manufacturers of pre-revolutionary Russia, built mills, housing and public buildings here, and several of their brick structures remain landmarks. Around these industrial sites, streets of low wooden houses with gardens fill most of the town, giving the map a soft, village-like texture.
The small Vichuga River winds through the town, and forest begins close to the outskirts. A Vichuga map poster captures this mix of large industrial blocks, loose residential lanes and water, a pattern typical of the region's mill towns and quite different from the grid of a planned city.
Large rectangular footprints of former textile factories stand out among the smaller houses, marking the separate settlements from which the town was formed.
The narrow river curves through the town, crossed by small bridges and followed in places by green strips of open ground along its banks.
Much of Vichuga consists of low houses on generous plots, arranged along long, straight streets that give the map a calm, even rhythm.

Koteā ko Vichuga
Vichuga is home to many families whose parents and grandparents worked in its mills. A map of the town keeps that history close and makes a thoughtful gift for relatives who now live in Ivanovo, Moscow or further away.
