Vīrakeralam lies on the western side of Coimbatore in Tamil Nadu, where the city spreads out towards the foothills of the Western Ghats. From above, it reads as a suburb in transition, with older village streets at its centre and newer residential layouts filling former farmland around it, connected to the city by main roads running east.
The street pattern shows those two layers clearly. The older core has short, irregular lanes, while newer residential areas follow straighter, planned lines with repeated plots. To the west, the hills get closer, and on clear days they dominate the skyline, although on the map they appear mainly as the point where dense streets thin into open land.
