Te mapa
Waldorf is in Charles County, Maryland, roughly twenty-five miles south of Washington, D.C. From above, it is organised around the Crain Highway, US 301, which runs north to south through the community with a band of shopping centres along its length. On either side, neighbourhoods of curving streets and cul-de-sacs spread into the woods, broken by stream valleys and small ponds.
Waldorf is an unincorporated community rather than a chartered city. Much of its growth came in the late twentieth century, as commuters moved south from the Washington area. Before that, it was best known for a period in the mid-twentieth century when slot machines were legal in several southern Maryland counties, drawing visitors to its highway strip.
A Waldorf map poster shows a very different pattern from an old town centre: the long, straight commercial spine, the loops and branches of residential streets, and the green gaps where creeks and woodland remain. The result is a surprisingly graphic map that reflects how many American communities have grown over the past half century.
The Crain Highway runs through the heart of Waldorf. Shopping centres and parking lots along it form broad, geometric shapes.
Away from the highway, residential streets loop and branch into cul-de-sacs, creating the flowing, tree-like patterns typical of late-twentieth-century suburbs.
Woodland and small creeks remain between developments. They leave green gaps in the street network and give the map a softer, more varied texture.

Koteā ko Waldorf
Waldorf is home to many families who commute into Washington or work on nearby bases, and its map is a personal record of a first house, a neighbourhood or a school. It also makes an easy gift when someone moves in or moves away.
Personalise the title and subtitle with a street name, surname or year, and adjust the coordinates line. Choose Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint or Sand. Then download 300 DPI files for $9 or order a matte print with an optional wooden frame.
