Te mapa
West Gulfport is a community in Harrison County on the Mississippi Gulf Coast, adjoining the city of Gulfport. The land here is almost completely flat and only slightly above sea level, and from above the area appears as a mix of suburban streets, cul-de-sacs, commercial strips along the main roads and patches of woodland in between.
Water is never far away. The Mississippi Sound lies just to the south, sheltered by a chain of barrier islands offshore, and small bayous and creeks wind through the area towards it. On a map these waterways add a loose, meandering element to a street pattern that otherwise follows the straight lines of roads and property boundaries.
The Gulf Coast has been shaped by hurricanes, most notably Katrina in 2005, and communities along it rebuilt in the years that followed. A West Gulfport map poster captures a coastal community in its everyday form: long roads, quiet residential loops, water and trees, close to the beach but with its own character.
Residential areas are built around curving streets and cul-de-sacs, which appear on the map as soft loops branching off the straighter main roads.
Small waterways wind through the area towards the coast, their meandering lines and wooded edges breaking up the regular pattern of streets and lots.
The Mississippi Sound lies just south, beyond Gulfport's beachfront, with barrier islands further offshore marking the edge of the open Gulf of Mexico.
