Wooster is the seat of Wayne County in northeast Ohio. Its downtown grid of straight streets is centred on the county courthouse and the main commercial blocks. On the map the core looks tidy and deliberate. Residential streets spread out from it, and at the edges they turn into curved subdivisions, wider highway corridors and the rectangular fields of surrounding farm country.
Two institutions stand out clearly from above. The College of Wooster occupies a leafy campus north of downtown, with quads and buildings arranged around open lawns. To the south, the Ohio Agricultural Research and Development Center, part of Ohio State University, covers wide grounds of test plots and greenhouses. Wooster is also known as the town where the Wooster Rubber Company, later Rubbermaid, started.
