Te mapa
Yamaga lies in northern Kumamoto Prefecture, on a plain beside the Kikuchi River, with wooded hills rising around it. From above the town centre is a compact network of narrow streets, many following the line of an old highway that once ran through it. Around this core, farmland and newer suburbs spread across the flatter land, and the river curves along one side.
The town is known for its hot springs and for the Yamaga Lantern Festival, when women dance in the streets wearing delicate lanterns made of gilded paper on their heads. Its other landmark is Yachiyoza, a wooden kabuki theatre from the Meiji era that is still in use. On the map, these sit within a small grid of old streets.
A Yamaga map poster keeps the town's scale: short blocks, a river nearby, and fields beginning just beyond the edge of the centre. It is the kind of place people remember for one evening, the festival, a bath, a performance, and the map gives that memory a permanent form.
The historic centre is a tight cluster of lanes along the former highway, with the Yachiyoza theatre among them. On the map it is the densest area.
The river passes the town on its way to the Ariake Sea, a clear, gently curving line with farmland and embankments on either side.
Beyond the centre, flat rice fields lead to wooded hills. The street network thins out, giving the poster open, quiet margins.
