Te mapa
Yingge is a district of New Taipei, south-west of central Taipei, along the Dahan River. The river forms its south-eastern edge, and the town opposite is Sanxia, known for its own old street. The railway runs through the middle of Yingge, dividing it into two sections that are densely built up, as is typical of northern Taiwan.
Yingge is known throughout Taiwan as its ceramics capital, a reputation built on local clay and generations of kilns and workshops. The Yingge Ceramics Museum and the Old Street, with its many pottery shops, are the district's best-known destinations. On a Yingge map poster, the Old Street area near the station is a compact, legible quarter surrounded by the more regular grid of later development.
The district's name comes from Yingge Rock, a boulder on the hillside to the north that local legend links to an eagle or parrot. That hillside is visible on the map, where the streets end and the ground rises. River to the south, hills to the north, and a dense town in between, crossed by the railway.
The river runs along the district's south-eastern edge and separates Yingge from Sanxia. It is a wide, curving band of open space against dense streets.
The ceramics street near the railway station forms a compact, recognisable cluster. It is the historic heart of the town's pottery trade.
The rail line cuts diagonally across Yingge. It is a sharp, straight line that divides the district and organises the streets around it.

Koteā ko Yingge
Anyone who has spent an afternoon among Yingge's pottery shops, or who grew up near its kilns, will recognise the river, the railway and the dense streets. The map makes a thoughtful gift for ceramic artists and collectors too.
