Te mapa
Yumen lies in the Hexi Corridor of Gansu Province, the long passage between the Qilian Mountains to the south and the desert to the north that once carried Silk Road traffic west. The city's name recalls the ancient Yumen Pass, the Jade Gate, although that historic frontier post lies much farther west near Dunhuang.
Yumen is known as a birthplace of China's modern oil industry. The Laojunmiao oilfield in the mountains to the south was developed from the 1930s, and the old city grew around it before the administrative centre moved north to the lower ground where the current city stands. The newer town shows this planning: wide, straight roads laid out across flat, dry land.
A Yumen map poster shows a regular street grid set against a great deal of emptiness. Irrigated plots and the lines of the railway and expressway running along the corridor are the main features beyond the town, and the open desert around them gives the map its sense of scale and stillness.
The city's broad, straight roads meet at right angles and form large rectangular blocks, a clear and orderly pattern that reads well at any poster size.
Railway and highway routes follow the Hexi Corridor past the city, drawing long parallel lines across the map toward Jiayuguan to the east and Xinjiang to the west.
Beyond the town and its irrigated fields, the land is almost entirely open, leaving wide empty space that makes the grid appear sharp and self-contained.

Koteā ko Yùmén
Yumen appeals to people with ties to Gansu, to the oil industry, or to anyone drawn to the Silk Road and the Hexi Corridor. Its clean grid on open ground makes a spare, architectural image.
You can personalise the title, subtitle and coordinates line, for example with the city's name in Chinese characters or a meaningful year. Choose from five styles: Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint and Sand.
