Te mapa
Yurigaoka is a residential area in the northern part of Fukuoka Prefecture, not far from Kitakyushu. The name can be read as lily hill, and like many Japanese neighbourhoods ending in -gaoka it describes a place built on rising ground. From above, its streets curve and step with the slope rather than forming a strict grid.
Hillside neighbourhoods of this kind in Japan usually took shape as planned housing, with loops of road, rows of detached houses and small parks set among them. The surrounding map shows the older landscape of the region: rice paddies on the valley floors, wooded hills, irrigation ponds and river courses heading north toward the coast.
There are no grand monuments here, and that is part of the appeal. A Yurigaoka map poster is about the texture of a real neighbourhood: the curve of a familiar street, the slope walked home each day, the edge where houses meet fields and trees.
Roads bend and loop to follow the hillside, drawing soft curves that give the area its own recognisable fingerprint on the map.
Rows of houses fill the spaces between curving roads, forming small irregular blocks that read clearly in fine black lines.
Wooded slopes, paddies and ponds surround the neighbourhood, leaving open spaces that frame the built-up area and emphasise its shape.

Koteā ko Yurigaoka
Some of the most meaningful places are ordinary neighbourhoods: where a family first bought a house, where children grew up. A detailed map of Yurigaoka captures that intimacy better than a photograph of any single street.
The title, subtitle and coordinates line are fully editable, so you can add a family name or the year you moved in. Choose one of five styles, from Classic black & white and Noir to Paper, Blueprint and Sand.
