Te mapa
Yamaguchi lies in a long basin in the west of Honshu, enclosed by forested hills and drained by the Fushino River. From above, the older town forms an elongated band along the valley floor, with streets aligned to the river and to the slopes. Rice fields and newer suburbs extend down the basin toward the south, while the hills remain almost untouched by roads.
In the fourteenth and fifteenth centuries the Ōuchi clan made the town their capital and shaped it after Kyoto, which is why it is still called the Kyoto of the West. Francis Xavier preached here in 1551, and the five-storey pagoda of Rurikō-ji, a National Treasure, stands in a park at the northern end of the old centre.
A Yamaguchi map poster frames the city at a human scale: the river winding through the valley, the rows of streets around the station and the older temple districts, and the hot-spring quarter of Yuda Onsen to the south-west. Printed in black and white, the empty mountain slopes give the design generous breathing space.
The river runs the length of the valley and sets the direction of the town. It appears on the map as a soft curve, with streets on either side following its course rather than a strict grid.
The fifteenth-century pagoda stands in Kōzan Park at the foot of the hills. On the poster the park shows as an open pocket where the town meets the forest.
The hot-spring district south-west of the centre has its own compact street pattern of inns and baths, forming a second small cluster within the broader valley.

Koteā ko Yamaguchi
Yamaguchi is a place people remember for its pace: temples, rivers, hot springs and hills all within a short walk or ride. A map suits anyone who studied, worked or lived here, and pairs naturally with minimal Japanese interiors.
