Te mapa
Yuzawa lies in the south of Akita Prefecture, where the Yokote Basin narrows into mountains. The Omono River runs through the area, and the town centre spreads over the valley floor, surrounded by rice fields laid out in regular rectangles. Beyond them, forested hills rise on every side, reaching towards the peaks near the Miyagi and Yamagata borders.
On a map, the grid of fields and the long lines of rail and road running north through the basin give the town a strong, clear structure. Smaller settlements and hot-spring villages reach into the valleys. A Yuzawa map poster frames that balance between flat farmland, compact town and mountain country.
Clean water and cold winters have made Yuzawa a sake-brewing town for a long time. It is also the home of Inaniwa udon, a thin hand-stretched noodle known across Japan. The city is known too for Kawatsura lacquerware and for heavy snowfall, which shapes daily life for several months each year.
The river and its tributaries cross the valley floor, and the town spreads along them. Together they form the main natural lines in the composition.
Surrounding farmland is divided into neat rectangular paddies, a finely textured grid that fills much of the flat land around the town.
Roads and small settlements follow narrow valleys into the surrounding hills, including the hot-spring areas in the mountains.

Koteā ko Yuzawa
Yuzawa is a map for someone who knows its winters and its breweries, or who left Akita for Tokyo and misses the quiet valley. It also makes a fitting gift for a sake enthusiast who has visited the town.
