The Water Temple
Above the town stands the Roman sanctuary built at the springs that fed Carthage. It marks the starting point of the aqueduct, and its setting is visible on the map.

Te mapa
Zaghouan lies in northeastern Tunisia at the foot of Djebel Zaghouan, a limestone mountain rising steeply from the surrounding plains. The town is built on the lower slopes, so its streets climb and wind, and the mountain's mass fills the landscape behind it. The springs on the mountain have made the site valuable since antiquity.
In Roman times, those springs fed the Zaghouan aqueduct, which carried water to Carthage over a long distance. The Water Temple, a Roman nymphaeum built at the source, still stands above the town. The old centre, shaped in part by Andalusian settlers, has narrow streets that follow the slope.
A Zaghouan map poster shows a town defined by its position on a mountain. Streets bend around contours, the old quarter forms a dense knot, and roads lead down to the plain in long curves. It is the source of one of antiquity's great feats of engineering, drawn in a few quiet lines.
Above the town stands the Roman sanctuary built at the springs that fed Carthage. It marks the starting point of the aqueduct, and its setting is visible on the map.
Djebel Zaghouan rises right behind the town. The streets climb and curve to follow the steep ground and give the map its winding character.
The historic centre is a tight cluster of narrow streets. It contrasts with the looser roads that lead down to the plain.

Koteā ko Zaghouan
Zaghouan appeals to people from the town and to anyone fascinated by Roman engineering and the story of water reaching Carthage. As a print, it is a quiet reminder of that history.
