Zamānia is a town in Ghazipur district in eastern Uttar Pradesh, close to the southern bank of the Ganges. From above, the river dominates the map, a wide band of water with sandbanks and floodplain that shifts with the seasons. The town sits back from the channel on higher ground, with fields covering the low land between.
The town itself is compact and irregular, with older lanes at the centre and newer streets along the main roads. The railway line on the route between Mughalsarai and Patna passes through, and Zamānia railway station is an important local link. The rail line runs almost parallel to the river, cutting a firm straight line across the map.
