Te mapa
Zé is a commune in Benin's Atlantique department, inland from the coast and north of the Cotonou area. The landscape is gentle and green, with farmland, oil palms and scattered stands of trees. On the map, the town is not a compact block but a network of roads and tracks linking villages and hamlets spread across the countryside.
Settlement tends to follow the roads, so the map shows lines of buildings along main routes and smaller clusters where tracks meet. Between them the land is open or lightly wooded. This pattern is common across southern Benin's rural communes, where daily life is spread out rather than concentrated in one centre.
A Zé map poster reflects that openness. It is a light, airy composition of fine lines crossing a wide area, with small concentrations of streets where villages gather. It does not rely on a single landmark. It shows how the place is connected, one road and track at a time, and it suits the warm Sand and Paper styles well.
A few principal roads cross the commune and connect its villages. Buildings line them, turning them into the strongest lines on the map.
Where tracks meet, small groups of streets and compounds form, dotting the composition with points of denser detail.
Fields and palm stands fill the space between settlements, giving the poster large, calm areas of negative space.

Koteā ko Zé
For families from Zé, especially those now living in Cotonou or abroad, a map of the commune is a quiet tribute to where they come from. It is personal and specific, and it is rarely seen on a wall.
