About this Xihu map poster
Xihu is a township in Changhua County, on the broad agricultural plain of western Taiwan. From above, the land is almost completely flat. The town centre is a small grid of shophouse streets, and around it lies a patchwork of rectangular paddies, greenhouses and village clusters. Roads and irrigation channels cross that patchwork at regular angles, which gives the whole area a carefully measured look.
The town is best known for the Xihu Sugar Factory. It is one of the few sugar mills in Taiwan still linked to a working narrow-gauge railway, and part of that line now runs as a heritage train through the fields. On a map the old sugar railway traces a thin, confident line across the farmland, a reminder of the cane industry that once shaped this plain.
