About this Xinyi map poster
Xinyi is a county-level city in the west of Guangdong, administered by Maoming and lying close to the border with Guangxi. It should not be confused with the Xinyi district of Taipei. The terrain here is mountainous, and the urban centre occupies a valley where the land flattens out enough for streets, with a river running through it.
From above, the town is compact and irregular, stretched along the valley floor and hemmed in by hills that rise quickly on either side. Bridges link the riverbanks, and roads leading out of town follow the valleys rather than cutting across the slopes. Most of the surrounding area is forest and farmland, so the built-up core shows as a dense island in open space.
Xinyi is a largely rural municipality, with many villages scattered through the hills around the centre.
