The map

About this Yaypan map poster

Yaypan is a town in Fergana Region in eastern Uzbekistan, in the western part of the Fergana Valley. The valley is one of the most densely settled and intensively farmed areas of Central Asia, and its agriculture depends on an extensive network of irrigation canals fed by rivers flowing down from the surrounding mountains.

On a map, that irrigation network is as prominent as the streets. Canals and ditches run alongside roads and through neighbourhoods, and fields are divided into long, regular rectangles. The town itself is a mix of straight main roads and smaller residential lanes lined with houses and courtyards, with orchards and gardens filling many of the spaces between.

A Yaypan map poster shows how water and cultivation shape a town in this part of the world. The fine parallel lines of canals and field boundaries give the countryside a textile-like pattern, while the town's streets form a denser weave at the centre. It is a quietly detailed print that rewards close looking.

Irrigation canals

Canals and channels thread through the town and fields, running beside roads and dividing land into parcels, a defining feature of the Fergana Valley.

02

Rectangular fields

Farmland around Yaypan is laid out in long, regular plots, creating a fine linear pattern that extends toward the edges of the print.

03

Garden neighbourhoods

Residential lanes are lined with houses, courtyards and orchards, forming a loose, leafy pattern around the straighter main roads.

Why Yaypan

A map that means something

The Fergana Valley holds a special place for many families, and Yaypan is home to many who have since moved away. A map of the town connects them to that landscape of canals, gardens and fields.

Personalise the title and subtitle with a name or date, adjust the coordinates line, and choose from Classic black and white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint or Sand. Blueprint highlights the canal network.
