About this Ylivieska map poster
Ylivieska lies in North Ostrobothnia, on the wide, level farmland that stretches inland from the Gulf of Bothnia. The Kalajoki river runs through the middle of town and draws a soft, meandering line across an otherwise straight-edged map. Bridges carry the road network over the water, and the centre gathers along both banks.
The town is also a railway junction. The main line running north toward Oulu meets a branch heading east into the interior, and the tracks cut long, confident lines through the street pattern. Residential districts spread out in loose blocks and curving cul-de-sacs, with open fields close to the centre in the way typical of Ostrobothnian towns.
