The map
Yongjing is a rural township in Changhua County, on the flat western plain of central Taiwan. The area is intensively farmed, and on a map the town appears as a loose network of streets and settlements spread among fields, with canals and irrigation ditches running in long, straight lines across the land.
There is no single dense centre in the way of a larger city. Instead, clusters of houses line the roads, and the pattern repeats across the township in small groups divided by farmland. Yongjing is also home to Yu San Guan, a historic family residence built in the traditional courtyard style and one of the better-known heritage houses in Changhua.
A Yongjing map poster offers a quieter view of Taiwan than the big-city prints. The regular lines of water channels and farm roads, broken by the soft clusters of settlement, give it a distinctive texture. It suits anyone with family in the township or a fondness for the countryside of central Taiwan.
Straight canals and ditches cross the plain, a legacy of long-established rice cultivation, and they draw some of the cleanest lines on the finished print.
Houses gather along the main roads in narrow bands, giving the map a scattered, linear pattern instead of a single concentrated centre.
Between the settlements the land is divided into small rectangular fields, whose boundaries create a subtle grid across the background of the poster.
