The map

About this Yverdon-les-Bains map poster

Yverdon-les-Bains occupies the flat plain at the southwestern end of Lake Neuchâtel. On a map the lake fills the northern part of the frame, and its shore curves gently past beaches and reeds. The Thièle and a series of canals run straight through the town into the lake. The regular old town sits between them, marked by the square footprint of its castle.

The thirteenth-century castle was built under the Savoy rulers. In the early nineteenth century it housed the educational institute of Johann Heinrich Pestalozzi, who drew visitors from across Europe. The town takes the second part of its name from thermal springs used since Roman times, when the settlement was called Eburodunum. East along the shore begins the Grande Cariçaie, a long protected marshland.

A Yverdon-les-Bains map poster brings together water, geometry and history. The lake, the straight canals, the compact medieval grid and the flat plain spreading south make a composition with clear structure. It suits anyone who lived near the lake, studied in the town or came here for the thermal baths, and it looks especially refined in the lighter styles.

01

Lake Neuchâtel shore

The southern tip of the lake meets the town in a smooth curve of beach and reeds, giving the print a strong, clean upper edge.

02

Canals and the Thièle

Straight channels cross the town and empty into the lake. They are among the most distinctive linear features of the map.

03

Castle old town

The square Savoy castle anchors a compact, regular historic centre. Its grid stands out clearly from the looser districts around it.
