Kericho sits on the western side of the Kenyan highlands, at around two thousand metres. It is the centre of the country's largest tea-growing region. The town itself is small and compact: a central grid of streets, a few main roads running out, and residential areas scattered on the surrounding slopes.
What makes the map distinctive is the land around the town. Tea estates cover the rolling hills in every direction, divided into blocks by estate roads and bands of trees. The region's steady rainfall, which often arrives in the afternoon, keeps the bushes green all year and supports one of the world's major tea-producing areas.
